So my roommate, Freya, called her mom and explained Sassy's situation, and her mom agreed to meet Sassy, and possibly keep her. Elated, I called [name withheld] to give her the good news and to ask her to sequester Sassy so we can have them meet (Sassy likes to hide from strangers). My aunt made it clear she wasn't okay with this and without going into detail she all but refused to consider letting Freya's mom meet her kitty, because it would be "too much trouble" for her lazy RETIRED arse to work around the schedule of someone who works full-time, like Freya's mom.

Finally she crossed a line with me and, despite being tired and ill and allsuch, late last night Freya and I drove a city over to pick Sassy up. She spent a miserable night locked in our bathroom (to keep her away from our resident cats, who are very, VERY friendly. OVERWHELMINGLY friendly, in fact.).

Freya's mom came by just a few minutes ago...and she basically took one look at this terrified little puff of kitty hiding under a toilet and said "You know what? I'm going to take her."

She's too sweet a cat to just let die for no reason. Freya and her mom packed her up (amidst much yowling, since she's scared to death of the carrier) and she's off to her new home. For obvious reasons she'll be kept separate from her existing pets (a cat and dog, respectively) until she (Sassy that is) gets more comfortable. I'm going to limit my contact with her for a while, because she's a cat who bonds unbelievably closely to her people, and I want to give her some time to really thoroughly bond with Freya's mom without distractions. I think the two of them will get along wonderfully once Sassy settles.

I called my Aunt and left a voicemail. The plan had been that we'd drop her off at [name withheld]'s again this afternoon so that Freya's mom could think it over...plans changed when she met her.

I'm so relieved this lovely little cat isn't facing a pointless death and is instead landing smack-dab in the lap of luxury. Once her probable-UTI is treated and once she's settled, I'll see if I can get some photos of her in her happy new home to share, though that could be a while.

Sassy may not know it yet but she's one lucky little kitty!

And I promise, next time I post I'll include new photos of my little Persian. XD Sorry for all the off-topic-ness!

I not own a second Persian. I think she's a Chinchilla by the look of her and her name's Misha (it was Marsha but we felt it didn't suit her). She was abused then abandoned so had had a rough life compared to Snowy who was only homed to us because his elderly owner died. Whereas Snowy has a plethora of health problems Misha is in excellent health for her 8 years. Her problems are purely behavioural. She has trust issues; we've had her 4 weeks now and she still looks anxious at the sound of raised voices on the telly or banging from the flats below. She was very nervous and Snowy didn't make things easier by growling at her for her first 3 days with us! He's fine with her now. I think sh may also have lost/been separated from a litter at some point as she licks constantly; if not herself she grooms Snowy (he needs it to be fair as he never grooms himself) and us if we are near her. I had to take her to the vet last week and she became very agressive and bit and scratched me, although she has calmed down to her playful self again which I am thankful for.

Here's a picture of her. As you can see she is sporting an interesting hair do. When she was rescued she had to have most of her fur shaved off; she was so caked in her own mess she couldn't poo and they thought she was pregnant (she wasn't). But the fur is growing back nicely, and her tail (sadly the photo doesn't do it justice) is magnificent!

Hi I'm new here, and new to owning a Persian! We got Snowy from a rescue centre nearly 4 weeks ago and he's just adorable. We got him on a foster basis as he is quite ill; he had a heart murmour, poor circulation, bad teeth and is completely deaf, as well as being 16 years old. He's also suffering from a bit of constipation at the moment, but is putting on a bit of weight finally as he was so thin when we got him. We are here to make what remains of his life as comfortable as possible.
Having never owned a long-haired cat before, let alone a Persian, can I just say how lovely they are! He's so affectionate and playful, an absolute joy!

I attended a cat show in Phoenix in mid-December.  A photographer took some candids of the cats at the show, with a good number of the photos being of Persians and Exotics.  The link to the album is:  jasonspics.zenfolio.com/p135643884

The first few pictures in the album are of Indy, a Maine Coon Cat, who is only about 10 months old in the picture.

While I certainly believe my Persephone is a lovely Persian, she has, shall we say, very definite opinions on things.  As an example, I was petting her on the bed one day.  She sneezed, then hissed at me because it was obviously my fault.  My Birman, Freyr, on the other hand, is more easy going and appears in picture #44, taking life easy on his hammock:  JasonsPics.zenfolio.com/p135643884/e61c50b5

It has been a while since Persephone has had her picture posted, so this unthinkable neglect needs to be remedied!  Here is a photo of her from around Christmas up in the cat cactus.  Freyr had chased her up a bit higher than she wanted and she was trying to figure out a way down.

Persephone up a chollaCollapse )
